Pilot and Educator Barrington Irving Spoke at Cranberry Station Elementary about the Flying Classroom.
Barrington Irving, who at age 23 became the youngest person and only African American ever to fly solo around the world, gave a presentation to students at Cranberry Station Elementary School on Tuesday, October 13, 2015.Irving is associated with The Flying Classroom, a cutting-edge, global, STEM+ learning adventure. This digital learning tool helps students excel in math, science, reading, and other core subject areas aligned to academic benchmarks for grades K-8. In addition, his nonprofit, Experience Aviation, aims to boost the numbers of youth in aviation and other science and math related careers.
Irving was raised in Miami''s inner city, surrounded by crime, poverty, and failing schools. His message includes the importance of determination, hard work, and a passion for what you want to achieve. He believes that the secret lies in having a dream in the first place, starting with powerful learning experiences that inspire students to pursue careers, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
