One of the core goals of school counseling is to assist students with post secondary planning. Post secondary planning starts with career education in elementary school, and continues through high school with the development of the educational career plan. Students begin to develop this plan in the eighth grade. It is important for students and their parents to have knowledge of available resources and be familiar with their options.

Career Information
Counselors in each school can assist students and parents in making decisions about choosing a career. The Multi-Service Community Center also provides students and community members with similar services. The first thing parents and students must recognize is that the career process is a life long process. Most individuals will change jobs at least 7 times throughout their working career. Counselors and Multi-Service Community Center staff can assist parents and students in learning the career search process and in locating and using appropriate resources.
