This month, Mrs. Geho will be teaching a classroom lesson to the eighth graders on an introduction to High School Graduation Requirements. This lesson will be taught in Team 6 classes on Friday, December 14 and in Team 5 classes on Monday, December 17. Please be on the lookout for information to come home during that time regarding the high school scheduling process.
Looking ahead: On January 24th, counselors from Liberty High School will be presenting in eighth grade science classes to expand on the high school graduation requirements and scheduling process. On this day, students will receive their recommendations from teachers for next year’s placement as well as their course selection sheet. Liberty will hold a parent information night on January 31st to go over the high scheduling process. Scheduling meetings will be held at Liberty High School on February 7th and February 13th from 4-7 pm. During this time, students and their parents will meet with their advisor from Liberty to turn in their course selection sheets. Lifetouch Spring Pictures will be taken on February 25 from 11:15 - 1:15pm on the cafeteria stage. More information will be coming.
The ORMS PTA will host an 8th Grade Dance this spring. We are looking for 8th graders who would like to be part of the planning committee. The first meeting will be on December 17, 2018 right after school in the media center. Students who would like to participate should complete the permission slip below and return to their homeroom teacher by Friday, December 14th. Future meeting dates will be determined as soon as possible.

The Great Kindness Challenge begins January 28 - January 31. Kindness cards will be distributed to students on January 28th. Students will complete kindness card statements that will be added to a butterfly wall at ORMS. Clubs will be making Kindness Matters poster and they will be displayed around the school. Friendship bracelets will also be created during lunch & FLEX and will be given to other schools!

The PTA is hosting a holiday luncheon for the staff at ORMS. The luncheon is going to take place on Thursday, December 20th. We need your help with providing bread, desserts and drinks!
All items may be dropped off in the school lobby between 8:00-10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 20th.

As part of that initiative, we are including the Home Paper Recycling Program. this program is to promote a recycling awareness here at school and to support your recycling at home. Next week, Dec. 10 - 14 is Waste Free Lunch Week. Please encourage your student to use lunch boxes, Tupperware, cloth napkins and reusable drink containers. ORMS uses 14 trash cans per day during lunch! That's a lot of trash!

ORMS is accepting donations for dogs and cats. The donations will go to the Baltimore County Humane Society and the Carroll County Humane Society. Your donations can be turned in to Mrs. Cherry in the Media Center. Check out the list below for the items they need:

7th Grade Medieval Day is December 19th from 8:20am - 3:00pm (culminating activity for students to share their research about Medieval Europe).
Mrs. Williams has started an after school Twisters' Study Hall starting Dec. 5th and running until May 2019. The study hall is available for students to work on their homework, work on projects together, or receive tutoring from another peer. Twisters' Study Hall will be held every Wednesday (except Dec. 12, Jan. 9, Feb. 13, Mar. 13, Apr. 10 & May 8) from 3:20 - 4:30pm in the Tech Ed room. Pickup will be at the front entrance at 4:30pm.
