DISC GOLF CLUB
ADVISOR: MS. JONES
Did you know that disc golf is the fastest growing sport in the nation? Did you know that disc golf is a lifetime sport that promotes one's physical, mental and social wellbeing? These benefits, in addition to learning the fundamental skills and rules of the game with a progression toward increasing skill level, can be gained through the NCMS Disc Golf Club. The Phys. Ed. Department provides the disc for students to use. Students who have their own disc are welcome to bring them. The club will be held throughout the school year as disc golf is a sport that can be played year round. In the event of bad weather, the club will either cancel for that day or adjust plans to practice skills that can be performed inside. Practice will be held after school on Tuesdays throughout the school year until 4:30 pm.
SGA (STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION)

SCORE CHALLENGE
ADVISOR: MS. OWINGS
SCORE is an acronym for Student Collaboration of Reearch Exploration. This challenge involves teams using computers and online databases to find answers to given questions in a specific amount of time. The purpose of the SCORE Challenge is for students to hone their research fact finding skills in a friendly competitive environment. To participate, parents need to complete a permission slip and the students must attend four after school practices. This event happens in the fall.
BOOK CLUBS
ADVISOR: MS. OWINGS
The purpose of the club is to gather with others who love to read and discuss books for pleasure. Through discussions, students will gain listening, speaking and debating skills. They will learn that everyone does not always agree, but listening to others thoughts and responding appropriately is important. The Media Specialist acts as a facilitator as the club is student-led. Meetings will be held approximately once a month during lunch.
PANTHER PRIDE LIVE
ADVISOR: MS. OWINGS
The morning announcements are produced by 8th graders live every school day. To be a part of Panther Pride Live, the students have to apply, interview, and have positive teacher recommendations.
LOCKED IN TO READING
ADVISOR: MS. OWINGS
The event is similar to the Escape Rooms which have become quite popular across the country. Students, in groups of 5-6, will be "locked" into a room in which they have to use clues to escape. The clues to escape will come from twelve of the nominated Maryland Black-Eyed Susan Books. To participate, parents/guardians must sign a permission slip. The Locked in to Reading event happens in the spring (towards the end of the school year).
CHESS CLUB
ADVISOR: MS. ZORN
The goal of the Chess Cllub is to teach students how to play, as well as to provide an outlet for those students who already know how to play. The club will be meeting every other Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in Room 211.
