Applied Mechanical Engineering is an excellent program for aspiring Mechanical Engineers to see how metal parts are made with precise tolerances. It allows them an opportunity to see where engineering theory meets the reality of production. This program can also prepare students for beginning a career as a machinist, a production operator, a quality control technician, or a manufacturing engineering technician in the computer-enhanced manufacturing environment. The program focuses on hands-on experiences using industrial tools such as lathes and mills. It also teaches students how to run highly advanced computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment along with 3D imaging software (CAD CAM) to make precision parts. This program is the ONLY program in the state that has earned national certification through the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS). (www.nims-skills.org )
This program was also recently recognized by MSDE as program of the year of all CTE programs in the state.

COLLEGE ADVANTAGE:
Get a jump start on college- Use "Tooling U", an online, college level software instruction package to earn college credit while having the training, skills, and experience that most high school graduates do not get until they are well into their college major. This program puts you in touch with state of the Computer Assisted Drawing/3-D imaging software linked to ($80K) Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC's) machines. Along with a complete machine shop that some studentsmay not even expeerience in college, allows students in this program will feel right at home in any college lab or work place setting. (more)

Start your career NOW- Work with industry grade technology that our local business partners use every day and become certified by NIMS©. This certification shows employers you are trained in a NIMS© facility and have the skills industry is looking for in a machinist/mechanical engineer technician. - Prerequisites: 2.0 GPA in academic classes and a 94% attendance
- Qualities and characteristics you will need:
- MUST pass the NIMS Measurement, Materials, and Safety certification test
- Able to follow safety guidelines without being reminded (Dangerous situation require this ability)
- Have the visual, technical, and manual ability to safely run industrial equipment
- Detail oriented
- Exposure to loud noises and warm working conditions

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS (Don't just take our word for it)
NIMS© The National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS), a nationwide, industry level organization, assures parents and students that the skills we teach are relevant and important in today's job market. NIMS is the industry leader in this field. This program's certifications must be renewed every three years, through an extensive onsite evaluation of the program.
The Pennsylavania College of Technology (Penn Tech) and The Community Colleges of Baltimore County- both have an agreement with CCCTC based on the college's requirements for curriculum, faculties, and instructor that is reviewed and renewed periodically to guarantee that students are getting the equivalent instruction at CCCTC that would be expected in class at that institution. Credits are awarded based on that agreement.
PROFESSIONAL ADVISORY COUNSEL By Federal and state regulations each program has a group of local business and educational institutions that periodically meets to discuss the programs curriculum and resources to make sure current trends in technology and skills are being taught so that students are prepared for the ever changing career requirements for that industry.
