 Greetings from theTES Media Center!

"Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body." ~ Joseph Addison

Did you know our TES Community has a "Little Free Library"!

It is located, along with our little Pantry, along the sidewalk between the elementary school
and middle school!  Please feel free to take and/or donate books for the community!

Destiny is our online catalog.
It can be accessed from school, home, or anywhere you have Internet access.

From home, go to this website: https://ccpsdestiny.follettdestiny.com/
If you need login information, you may call the office or Media Center to ask.

EXCITING BOOK NEWS ....

You may not know this, but our TES Media Center collection includes over 500 interactive eBooks!!  If you have access to the Internet, you have access to all of these books!

(Simply, click on the Destiny link above and select Taneytown Elementary.  Scroll down under ELA Resources, then click on Capstone Interactive Library.)

You have access to the TES online books with our regular login information.  Ask your child for this login information, or contact our Media Specialist, Ms. Berling.

We also now have a fantastice online resource called SORA.  Students can click on the link to SORA and search for Carroll County Public Schools.  They have access to hundreds of eBooks that can be downloaded to a device. Students can "borrow" up to 3 online books at a time, and can read them on their device for 13 days. Books can be digitally returned before then, or they will be automatically returned (removed from the computer/device) when those two weeks are up. Books that are currently unavailable to be "borrowed" can be placed on hold.

WELCOME TO OUR MEDIA CENTER!

~ Media Matters ~

Mission & Vison
The goal of the media program is for students to become independent users of the library and of information. Students receive instruction in Library Literacy, Literature Exploration, Information Literacy, and Digital Citizenship. This instruction can be within weekly Media classes and/or in integrated lessons with grade-level classroom instruction.

Our Collection
The TES Media Center houses approximately 14,000 items, including books, magazines, videos, eBooks, computer equipment, and professional journals. The media center has desktops available for student and teacher use, as well as a mobile computer lab of laptops we share with the other Specials teachers.

Media Help
Selected students in 5th grade belong to our Media Crew and help in the morning and afternoons. Students are responsible for organizing Media supplies, straightening books on shelves, gathering books to be checked in, routing magazines, shelving books, and making deliveries. Additionally, members of the 5th Grade Media Crew are responsible for producing the live daily "WTES Morning News" program.  The crew members meet once per week during recess to prepare materials and participate in mini-lessons.

In addition to our student helpers, parents are welcomed and encouraged to volunteer in our Media Center.  We need parent volunteers to help check books in and out at the Circulation Desk, shelve books, assist students in finding just-right books, and a variety of other tasks. Please call the Media Center if you are interested in becoming a parent volunteer.  In order to volunteer, you MUST be volunteer-trained.  Please see the CCPS website for a list of training sessions.

Media Classes and Checkout Procedures
Students in Pre-K visit the Media Center once a week for 20 minutes and check out a different book each week (if they have returned their previous book).

Kindergarten students visit the Media Center twice per week for 30 minutes each session.  On their second Media day of the week, they are able to check out one new book if they have returned their previous book.

In grades 1 and 2, students visit the Media Center once per week for 30 minutes and can check out one new book weekly if they have returned their previous book.

Students in grades 3 - 5 visit the Media Center for 30 minutes each week, and can check out 2 books every other week.  This allows students more time to read lengthier and more challenging books, and gives them additional time in Media lessons to complete projects.  In addition to checking out books, students are engaged in a variety of activities designed to strengthen their research and critical thinking skills.

We ask that all students return their Media materials the week they are due. Students may also renew a book as long as it is not on hold for another student. Lost and/or damaged Media materials must be paid for. We ask that monetary compensation be provided so that we can re-purchase materials that meet the specific needs of the Media Center.  Unlike books that can be purchased in stores, the books we purchase have a special library binding, which increases the durability (and cost) of the book.  Students will also periodically bring home an overdue notice so that parents/guardians are aware that a student has overdue or lost items.
