Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are having a wonderful summer! We have been busy getting ready to start our school year in a virtual setting.  We are eager to get started and to provide the best experience possible for our students and families as we begin on September 8th.  As your school administrators, we are committed to maintaining a positive environment for all students whether we are in school or virtual. We also believe in a strong academic program where all students can meet with success and tap into the inherent greatness within themselves.  We cannot wait to see all that our students will learn and achieve this year!

Our teachers and staff have been working hard as well to support and maximize the virtual learning model.  They have been attending professional learning sessions and collaborating with each other to prepare for the fall and to deliver high quality instruction.

At Parr’s Ridge, we believe the foundation for learning is the positive relationships that are built between teachers and students.  Our teachers and staff our excited to get to know new and returning families.  Our Back-to-School/Open House activities will be held on Thursday, September 3 to meet the teachers and learn about the upcoming school year. Each session will be conducted virtually and will last approximately 30 minutes. We will be sending more details about this as we get closer.

Virtual Back-To-School/Open House Meetings – Thursday, September 3

*Kindergarten:  1pm

*First Grade:  2pm

*Second Grade:  3pm

Parents and Guardians are now able to view their child’s homeroom teacher assignment by logging into the Home Access Center.  Information on the Home Access Center and directions on how set up an account are provided at the end of this letter.  Please note that, because of an upgrade in the Home Access system, everyone will need to create an account even if you have had one in the past.

Listed below is a link to access the virtual schedules for the beginning of the year. This fall semester will have more opportunities for students to engage daily in synchronous instruction (live teaching).  Thank you for all the ways you supported your child in the spring and for the support you will give as we start the new year.  We are so fortunate to have such caring parents and guardian.

We value the role that all our parents play in the success of their children in school.  It is truly a partnership that benefits our students and helps to build the future for our children. We will continue to send information via email to keep you updated with the latest information as we move closer to the start of school.  This information will include the directions on accessing the google classroom, attendance procedures, and other important information.

Enjoy the rest of your summer.  Please take time to relax and do some fun activities with your children as the fall can be a busy time.  We are excited and looking forward to a great school year! Feel free to contact one of us if you have any questions.

Home Access Center

Carroll County Public Schools uses a third party application, Home Access Center, to allow parents to view their student’s schedules, grades, and other related information.  This is where you will be able to view the name of your student’s homeroom teacher as well as his/her user name and password for joining your child’s Google Classroom.  The Home Access Center was updated this summer to increase security features.  This update required that all parents/guardians create a new parent account, not just those families new to the school system.  A personalized email was sent out by CCPS on July 29, 2020, giving instructions on how to create your new account.  The email came from donotreply@carrollk12.org with a subject line of “Home Access Center – Action Required”.

The information used to create the Home Access Center account is the information that is currently in our student information system and may not be current if you have moved.  If this information is not correct, please contact the school to update the information.

If you did not receive the email please check your junk/spam folder, as well as our deleted items to make sure it didn’t end up in any of those locations.  If you still cannot find it, please send an email to mystudent@carrollk12.org and ask them to re-send the Registration Email to you.  Be sure to include your name and the email address the school has on file for you, along with the name of at least one of your CCPS students.

For more information about Home Access Center please refer to this User Guide and FAQ document:  https://mystudent.carrollk12.org.org/Home Access/HomeAccessFAQs.pdf

School/Parent Communications 08/4/2020

Dear Parr’s Ridge Elementary Families,

I hope you and your family are staying healthy and are finding ways to enjoy the summer break. The past several months have presented many challenges to so many of us. It is important that we all remember to address and support the physical, mental, and emotional needs of ourselves and of our family members.

Last Wednesday, the Carroll County Board of Education made the decision to have students start the school year in a full virtual model. Throughout the summer, CCPS has gathered student, parent, and educator feedback pertaining to their experiences with virtual learning. CCPS, as well as, our school staff have spent time reviewing the data, reflecting on our practices, and developing plans that will enhance the virtual learning experience for our students. Students will engage in a combination of real-time virtual instruction, instruction on an individual schedule, and completion of assigned tasks. In addition to regularly scheduled virtual instruction, blocks of student support time will be made available for students and teachers to meet virtually.

Additional Improvements to this model of instruction for the fall include:

  • Increased live virtual interactions between students and educators
  • A single digital platform for students and parents to access instruction, communication, and feedback
  • Robust professional learning opportunities for educators to increase their skill set for teaching in a virtual environment, which includes on-demand professional learning videos and courses for educators
  • Ongoing communication and support for students and families in a distance learning environment
  • Continued efforts to ensure every child can connect digitally

The virtual model that will be utilized this school year will be different than last spring's “Continuity of Learning” plan. The Enhanced Virtual Learning Model differs from the Continuity of Learning format when grades were either “Pass” or “Incomplete”. In the 2020-21 school year, CCPS expects rigorous coursework with our standard grading system. The academic intensity of instruction will be greater and students will earn traditional letter grades as opposed to the Pass (P) or Incomplete (I) that was used during fourth quarter. The virtual learning model should look and feel more like a traditional classroom setting with a consistent schedule and daily face-to-face virtual instruction. I am confident that with the enhancements that have been put into place, our students will have a very successful academic year.

As we continue to move into this model, I know that there are still many questions and concerns. Please know that we are here to help and will do our best to answer any questions that you may have. A strong collaborative effort will further solidify our students’ success as we navigate to a full virtual learning model. Additionally, I know that our staff is fully committed to providing our students with the best educational experience possible.

Please continue to closely monitor your email for communications and future updates. In the meantime, do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions via email at CSHASTI@carrollk12.org for Mr. Hastings or kjhayde@carrollk12.org for Mrs. Hayden. We look forward to working together to support the success of our students.
