The Learning Advantage Partnership is a partnership between Carroll County Public Schools and Carroll County Public Library. The partnership provides unique opportunities for students to explore technologies, improve literacy, and learn in new ways.
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a book based team competition. Students compete in teams to answer questions about selected books. The game style competition creates excitement in reading while developing teamwork and sportsmanship. 4th and 5th graders, and middle school students from participating schools, read and discuss quality literature over the course of the school year to prepare for the competitions held in the spring. SCORE is an acronym for Student Collaboration of Research Exploration. The challenge requires students to use databases to research the answers to questions. For the challenge Middle School students, from participating schools, answer questions with progressively less time to find the answers in each round. Research search skills are important for students both in and out of school and the S.C.O.R.E. challenge help students to improve these skills. Other Learning Advantage Partnership programs include parent workshops, school family reading nights, Black Eyed Susan celebrations, book talks and year round reading programs. Some of these programs also give students the opportunity to explore new technologies through STEM programs, Virtual Reality and Maker Spaces.
