The Carroll County Secondary Mathematics program is designed to prepare all students to be successful participants in a global community. Graduates of Carroll County Public Schools will know and be able to use mathematics in their chosen career path to directly enter the world of work, to continue their formal education, or both.
The middle and high school mathematics curricula are aligned to the Maryland College and Career Readiness Standards and to national mathematics standards so that students are prepared for the PARCC assessments in grades 6-8 and in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II.
The middle school program takes all students from their level of mathematical understanding upon entering sixth grade to an understanding of the foundational elements of algebra, patterns, and functions; geometry; measurement; statistics; probability; number relationships and computation; and processes of mathematics (problem solving strategies).
The high school program includes course sequences for students who wish to directly enter the world of work without further formal education as well as for students who wish to continue their formal mathematics education. Three college-level Advanced Placement courses are available for students who seek that challenge during their high school career.
A flow chart of the secondary math sequence can be found here.
