Description: The summer of 2017 CCPS will host Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR), July 17 - 27, 2017.

2017 registration cost: $3,000.  Registration Fee must be paid or purchase order received prior to the beginning of the Institute.  Please submit a Purchase Order to Carroll County Public Schools immediately after registration to confirm that payment will follow.  Submit POs via fax at 410-751-3159 or via postal mail at:

LODGING

 Lodging:   Lodging will be provided at the beautiful Best Western Westminster Hotel (more information is available at http://www.bestwesternwestminster.com/) which is only about 5 miles from Westminster High. The spacious nonsmoking room features two double beds, 27" color television, easy to operate alarm clock/radio and large work desk. The high speed wireless complimentary Internet will help you stay connected during your stay. You will also enjoy the convenience of having a microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, iron/ironing board in your room. In the bathroom you will enjoy fluffy towels and amenities to use throughout your stay such as lotions and soap.   A deluxe continental breakfast is provided for the hotel guests. 

Single occupancy is available at a $400.00 increased cost. Payment or approved P.O. to CCPS must be received prior to check in.

 

MEALS

Meals: A deluxe continental breakfast is provided for the hotel guests. Lunch will be catered at Westminster High School by the Blue Bistro.  Each participant will be provided with a meal stipend for the dinners that are not provided on training days. During this institute two dinners will be provided by your hosts; the orientation dinner and one evening during the second week we will gather at the Carroll County Farm Museum for a potluck dinner as a whole group. The host will provide a Maryland picnic dinner.  Participants are responsible for their own meals on non training days; Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23, 2017.

The meal stipend is for 6 dinners, $144.00, that the participants will independently provide.  The allowable Maryland stipend rate for the dinner is $24.00.

REGISTRATION
Complete the AFNR online registration and choose University of Maryland, Westminster High School, Westminster, MD and complete the registration form by selecting this  site and date for the  institute you will be attending. Please be aware that all registrations must be paid in full or a confirmed purchase order received at the start of the CASE Institute. You will receive an invoice directly from the hosting institute you are attending.
 
SCHEDULE
Schedule:  Hotel check in is at or before 4:00pm on Monday, July 17, 2017.  A short trip (Transportation is the participants resposnibility) to Westminster High School for a 5:00 buffet dinner with an introduction to the CASE Institute. Weekday classes will begin promptly at 8 a.m. at Westminster High School. You will be provided a catered lunch from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.. Each day class will wrap up at 5 pm for dinner on your own. Participants can reconvene at the Best Western to complete activities and write ups. Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23 are days off allowing you to explore the many attractions located within 1 hour of Westminster, MD.
Monday, July 24 the CI will reconvene promptly at 8a.m. at the school.
12– 1 lunch will be catered at the school. Class will wrap up at 5:00.  At 5:30 p.m. your host will provide a Maryland picnic dinner at the Carroll County Farm Museum.  Tuesday, July 25 through Thursday, July 27  will follow the first week schedule. Thursday we will close the CI at 12 p.m. with lunch and a short certificate ceremony and celebration.

For those traveling by air to Westminster, MD:  The closest airport is BWI. Transportation from BWI to the Best Western in Westminster, MD must be arranged by the participant.  Please allow at least two hours after your flight to arrive in Westminster, depending on the time of day.

Participant Registration Cancellation 
A cancellation fee has been adopted since 2014. The cancellation fee has been implemented to reduce the number of last minute cancellations or no-show registrations. We will charge a $250 cancellation fee for registration cancellations made within 30 days of the start of the institute. In situations of no-show registrations without prior notice, the non-refundable fee will be $1000. The fee may be  waived for extenuating circumstances beyond the participants control.
