The Boundary Adjustment Committee recommendations were presented to the Board of Education on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. Subsequently, the Board has held two public work sessions and one business meeting to discuss the report and consider additional options.

September 9, 2015 - Initial Boundary Adjustment Committee (BAC) report provided at a Board business meeting. The BAC Report included the initial Options 1 & 2 for recommended school closures and boundary adjustments. The Board asked BAC to produce a third option that would reduce the impact on the number of students being redistributed. The Board also asked the BAC to consider schools that are under-utilized for closure recommendations.
September 28, 2015 - Board work session to clarify the BAC Report, ask additional questions, and offer additional guidance to the BAC. The BAC presented a draft of Option 3 that the Board had requested. The Board also asked BAC to develop a fourth option that would close the East Middle building and relocate the students to another school site.
October 14, 2015 - Board business meeting at which the BAC presented a final version of Option 3. The BAC also presented an initial view of Option 4, which would relocate East Middle to the Winters Mill High building and redistrict the Winters Mill High students to four adjacent high schools.
October 26, 2015 - Board work session to review existing options, examine other possibilities, and clarify the next steps of the public process. The BAC reviewed in a school-by-school manner the challenges identified in selecting schools from the Board's September 9th meeting to examine under-utilized schools. The BAC also provided an update on Option 4 including unanswered questions regarding the unused space in the Winters Mill High building under the option. Superintendent Guthrie informed the Board that he was developing a fifth option with the BAC that would propose closing three schools. Superintendent Guthrie announced he would bring a final recommendation to the Board of Education at its November 11, 2015 Board meeting.
November 11, 2015 - Scheduled Board business meeting at 4:00 p.m. in the Winters Mill High School auditorium. Superintendent Guthrie will present a final recommendation to the Board for them to consider for a public hearing process. If the Board votes to submit Superintendent Guthrie's recommendation for public hearing, dates will be promptly scheduled in the communities impacted. Those hearing dates, times, and locations will be posted on this site and announced in other ways as well. The public will be invited to offer public comment at the hearings on the final recommendation.
Following the period of public hearings, a final recommendation could return to the Board for final decision. As of now, the next scheduled Board meeting would be December 9, 2015.
