Substitute Teaching Information and Hiring Procedures

Substitute Teacher applicants must have a minimum of 30 college credits verified by transcripts or a minimum test score of 455 on the ParaPro exam verified by a score sheet.  Permanent Substitute applicants must have at least a Bachelor's degree.  Substitutes must be at least 21 years of age to substitute in high schools.  Substitutes are required to work a minimum of 5 days per semester, totaling 10 days per school year. 

Candidates selected for substitute teaching positions will receive notification via U.S. mail containing further instructions.   Please do not call Human Resources regarding the status of your application.

 

When substituting for a teacher:
Certified and/or Degreed (Bachelor's) Substitute: $113.06 per day, $56.53 per half day
     Long-Term Substitute Assignments:
        Day 1 through Day 10 - $113.06 per day
        Day 11 through end of assignment - $124.36 per day

Non-degreed Substitute: $82.25 per day, $41.13 per half day (regardless of the duration of the assignment)

 
When substituting for an Instructional Assistant:
$82.25 per day, $41.13 per half day
 
**On scheduled early close days, substitutes will be paid for five hours.

 Substitute Registered Nurses

Substitute Registered Nurse applicants must have the following qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited registered nursing program
  • Current Maryland Registered Nurse (R.N.) license
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification

When substituting as an RN:
As of July 1, 2019, the hourly rate will be $36.09 per hour.
