Robo-Lions Represent Chesapeake District in World Championships

The Robo-Lions, FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 2199, qualified to be among over 450 FRC teams from around the world competing in the World Championships for FIRST Robotics, held April 20-23, 2022, at the George R. Brown Center in Houston, Texas.  The team earned the Engineering Inspiration Award at the District Championship in Newport News, Virginia, on April 9th and raised the funds needed to take nearly all 16 members and supporters to Houston.

During three days of competition, teams from around the world played in qualification matches, followed by playoffs among eight select alliances of three.  The Robo-Lions did well in qualifications, ending in the top third, but were not selected for playoffs.  The level of competition was inspiring, and team members were able to learn engineering and programming skills for the next season. They also had the opportunity to meet teams from Israel, Mexico, Japan, Canada, the Netherlands and all across the United States. Two team members also met, a huge fan of FIRST Robotics, and the founder of FIRST, Dean Kamen.

The Robo-Lions is a community-based team open to all high school students and will be accepting new members starting in May through December of 2022 for the 2023 season.
