Correction to Carroll County Times Article

In the Sunday, June 12, edition of the Carroll County Times, it was incorrectly stated that “Carroll County’s Board of Education unanimously approved the state’s new health curriculum framework, which includes instruction on gender identity, for high school students at its Wednesday meeting.”

At this meeting, the Board of Education did approve the Family Life Advisory Council (FLAC) Opt-Out Indicators for the Family Life Unit for Health I and Health II for high school. This means parents who wish to opt out of the Family Life Indicators in the state framework will have the opportunity to choose the alternative Family Life Indicators as amended by the FLAC.

Parents and guardians may exercise their right to “opt out” of the option to enroll their students in either (a) the alternative learning activities and assessments in health education in accordance with the standards proposed by the FLAC, or (b) other alternative learning activities and assessments meeting the minimum requirements of state law.
