Maya Lee, a junior at Liberty High School and a member of the Liberty Lions’ Pride Marching Band, received the High Drum Major Award at the Group III Open Class Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championships at Hershey Stadium. As the recipient of this award, Lee will be one of four drum majors to have the honor of leading the Tournament of Bands All-Star Marching Band in the 2017 Philadelphia Dunkin Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade.

There is no drum major award offered in Tournament of Bands, aside from winning the Atlantic Coast Championships. According to Liberty High School instrumental music director Brandi Jason, “It’s a tremendous accomplishment – one shot each year to compete with all other school drum majors at the final competition of the season.”

The Liberty Lions’ Pride Marching Band earned 3rd place at the competition and brought home an award for High Woodwinds.  This is the second consecutive year the Lions’ Pride Marching Band has earned 3rd place at Atlantic Coast Championships.  This year’s show was titled Amazon: Quest for Gold.  There were 62 band members, including 10 color guard and 1 drum major.
