The Carroll County School Bus Contractors Association and the Carroll County Public Schools Transportation Services Department recently presented Jim Rill with the “Top Gun Award” for 53 years of accident-free driving.

Jim and his wife, Linda Rill, have been long-standing school bus contractors for Carroll County Public Schools, operating bus numbers 19, 33, and 166, serving Westminster area schools.

According to Mike Hardesty, Director of Transportation Services, “On a sad note, Jim passed away on July 16 after battling cancer for a year and a half.  His 53 years of accident-free driving is a remarkable achievement!  We were able to present the ‘Top Gun’ award to Jim the week prior to his passing.” Hardesty added that Jim always had a smile on his face, loved the students he transported, and always said that driving the school bus was the best part of his day.

This award is presented every three years at a School Bus Safety Banquet. This year’s banquet was postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
