South Carroll High School has established a Wellness Team dedicated to the health and wellness of students and staff. The goal is to promote healthy habits, increase awareness for healthy choices, and provide wellness opportunities for South Carroll.
The Wellness Team’s first project was to install water bottle refilling stations in four locations throughout the school building. The filling stations provide filtered, chilled water to encourage hydration and help reduce the use of disposable water bottles.
Filling stations were provided thanks to a wellness grant from the School Health Council and the South Carroll Athletic Boosters, Student Government Association, Green Team, Class of 2018, National Honor Society, and support from principal Christina Dougherty.
Future wellness activities will include basic first aid and Stop the Bleed lessons for students led by school nurse Dawn Reardon and SRO Master Deputy Justin Shriver and a nature walk led by Green Team advisor Jodi Cook. There also be an information booth and physical fitness challenges at the NHS Walk for Diabetes, led by physical education teacher Vince Rusbosin and instructional assistant AJ Rusbosin.
