Leilani Wiswakarma, an eighth grade student at Northwest Middle School, submitted the winning entry in a contest to develop a logo for the Maryland State Department of Education’s Mathematics Department.

In the late spring of 2018, as MSDE was updating its website, each office was asked to create their own logos. The Mathematics Department asked students across Maryland to submit logo creations that would signify mathematics in Maryland. Earlier this fall, three logos were published in the MSDE Mathematics Fall Newsletter and teachers were asked to vote on which logo they liked best. The logo created by Wiswakarma received 75% of the votes.

The logo will be used on the MSDE Mathematics website, as well as other MSDE Mathematics publications.

You may view the logo at: http://marylandpublicschools.org/about/Pages/DCAA/Math/index.aspx

The logo is on display in the lobby at the Maryland State Department of Education.
