The Maryland 4-H Horse Communications Team competed at the All American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio in October and the Eastern National 4-H Horse Round-Up in Louisville, Kentucky in November, 2018. The team includes 4 competitors in three categories: Public Speaking, Individual Demonstration, and Team Demonstration.

The coach is a Carroll County 4-H volunteer and CCPS Assistive Technology Professional, Karen Scott. The team demonstration was developed and presented by two CCPS students: Lesa Ramsburg from Westminster High School and Kami Barth, Century High School.

Their Team Demonstration, All Things Aside, shared the history, clothing, and equipment of sidesaddle riding, from its early origins to its current resurgence. They presented an illustrated PowerPoint and shared multiple props, including 3 side saddles, Western and English sidesaddle riding attire, and other equipment. They wowed the judges at both contests with their presentation skills and the information they shared.

They were awarded 1st Place at both contests, and the entire Maryland Team won the team high points award, a combination of the scores of all 4 competitors.
