First Financial Federal Credit Union of Maryland recently honored Tina Thomen, Carroll County Teacher of the Year, by presenting her with two prizes, including $100 cash and $100 toward school supplies.

As a credit union created to serve local educators, First Financial FCU joined Carroll County Public Schools to recognize exemplary local teachers. Each year the Carroll County community has the opportunity to nominate outstanding educators who make an impact both inside and outside of the classroom.

This year’s Outstanding Teacher Awards Ceremony recognized 461 teachers overall. From that group, 8 finalists advanced to the next stage of interviews. The honor of Carroll County Teacher of the Year was ultimately awarded to Thomen, an English teacher at Manchester Valley High School. She will now be considered at the state level for Maryland Teacher of the Year.

“Recognizing outstanding teachers in our community gives us the opportunity to thank the hardworking individuals who go above and beyond, every single day, in the education of our children,” said Eric Church, President and CEO of First Financial FCU. “We are honored to be a part of such an exceptional community of educators.”
