8th grade:  Students going to Winters Mill need to save the date for Jan. 12th.  There is a Parent/Student night at 7pm at Winters Mill High School.  Also, meet with an Advisor and sign up for your courses on 2/1 if your last name is A-L and 2/9 if your last name is M-Z.  Both nights are from 4-7 pm.  No appointment is necessary
           
        Westminster High School Students:  The Parent Night for students going to Westminster High next year will be on Jan. 31st at 7pm in the Auditorium of Westminster High.  More information to follow!!

Mission

 Carroll County Public School Counselors facilitate the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students.  School Counselors are integral members of the instructional team. They directly impact student achievement by delivering comprehensive services that meet the needs of the 21st century school community.

What is the role of School Counselors?

 Individual Counseling

Counselors provide a safe, comfortable and confidential environment in which students can discuss many topics regarding their personal and social problems, career goals as well as academic difficulties. Some topics may include, but are not limited to: peer relationships, stress, time management, goal-setting, academic planning, bullying, family changes or stressors, social skills, organization, career exploration and development of problem solving skills.
Small Group Counseling
Throughout the year groups are created based on needs survey, teacher referrals, family referrals, and student requests. These are the following groups that are typical in any given school year:

Classroom Guidance
Throughout the year counselors will provide many classroom lessons that are geared specifically to the needs of the students and the school. Some examples of classroom lessons are:

Personality Typing                                  Study Skills
Academic Interventions
Counselors provide many academic interventions such as helping students with time management,  providing opportunities for homework help, and provide supplementary interventions unique to each student’s specific needs to ensure that every student will excel to their highest academic potential.
Behavioral Interventions
Counselors collaborate with administration and faculty to facilitate behavioral interventions for students in need of support in the areas of safety, respect, and responsibility.

 Next, call Mrs. Over, School Registrar, to set up an appointment at 410-751-3662.  All necessary paperwork must be in hand at the time of the appointment in order for the student to be enrolled.
