Career highlights: Having former students share with me the impact I had on their lives; publishing the yearbook and placing it in the hands of the students who helped create it; Reenacting the scene from Dead Poets Society where the students stand on their chair and call their poetry teach "O Captain! My Captain!" in tribute.
Fun fact! My dad had a part in the movie Gettysburg. I attended the screening and met Director Martin Sheen (Gen. Lee). When Mr. Brownley shows the movie, he points out "Ms. Blythe's dad."

Career highlights: The opportunity to work on loan with The American Chemical Society for 3.5 years; Co-wrote a science and technology textbook and was an instructor for "Operation Chemistry." I enjoyed the experience, but my first day back with the kids, I knew that was where I wanted to be.
Fun fact! While teaching at Lombard Jr. High in Baltimore, I had a sociable young man in my class. He always complained about homework and said, "I just want to play basketball." I told him everyone wanted to play basketball, he still had to do his homework. I would later see him playing for the Washington Bullets. I tell kids to work hard and follow your dreams- it can happen.

Fun fact! After 6 years of teaching (1976-1981) and then 25 years away from the classroom, I joined the West Middle faculty in 2006. I have taught French, German, Spanish and English.
