BOARD POLICY
STUDENT DRESS CODE
A. PURPOSE
To establish a uniform, county wide policy that defines appropriate student
dress to be worn during the school day.
B. STATEMENT OF POLICY
The Board of Education has a strong commitment to the learning process.
Therefore, the Board of Education has a legitimate interest in regulating
student attire and appearance during the school day in an effort to avoid
disruption, to promote self-discipline, to promote student health and
safety, and to maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning.
Students of Carroll County Public Schools are required to groom themselves
in a manner that is modest, clean, appropriate, decent, and not disruptive
to the educational process. Students are expected to abide by this dress
code from the arrival to the school building to the defined ending of
the school day.
C. EXCEPTIONS TO THE POLICY
Request for exceptions to the dress code for the purpose of school activities
are up to the discretion of the school administration.
D. AMPLIFYING INSTRUCTIONS AND GUIDELINES
- This policy applies to the defined school day as it relates to the
normal time of arrival until after the normal time of departure for
the instructional day.
- A student found wearing inappropriate clothing will be asked in a
respectful manner to change or remove the item, and will be given an
opportunity to do so. Should the student not be able to change or remove
the item, necessary clothing may be provided by the individual school.
Students who fail to cooperate will be referred to an administrator.
Any student not complying with the direction of the administrator may
be considered insubordinate and subject to appropriate administrative
action.
- All employees of the Carroll County Public Schools are required to
enforce violations of the dress code.
E. EXPIRATION / REVIEW
This policy will be reviewed at the end of three years, or sooner, if
approved by majority vote on the Board of Education in public session.
The Superintendent shall apprise the Board a month in advance of any changes
in the Administrative Regulations to this policy.
