Media

The goal of the media program is for students to become independent users of the library and of information. Students receive instruction in research and library skills, media literacy, media production, and reading. This instruction is integrated with classroom instruction as much as possible.

Students in fourth and fifth grade volunteer as media assistants in the morning and afternoons. Students are responsible for straightening shelves, checking books in and out, routing magazines, shelving and processing books, and making deliveries.

Parents can volunteer regularly in the media center or just drop in to put some books away. We need parent volunteers to help check books in and out, shelve books, assist students, process materials, and to help with a variety of other tasks. Please call or drop by the media center if you are interested in becoming a parent volunteer.

The TES Media Center houses nearly 12,000 items, including books, magazines, videos, and professional journals. The media center has 9 computers available for student and teacher use. Applications include internet access to online databases for research, word processing, Kidspiration, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Students in grades 1 through 5 visit the media center once a week for 30 minutes, and kindergarten students visit the media center twice each week. In addition to checking out books, students are engaged in a variety of activities designed to strengthen their research and critical thinking skills.

Mrs. Cross has a master’s degree in Instructional Technology with a concentration in School Library Media from Towson University. In the past she has taught at The Montessori School in Lutherville as well as the Shepard Pratt Forbush School in Towson. Mrs. Cross enjoys spending time with her husband and two cats as well as READING, hiking, & swimming.

Mrs. Williams is the full-time media clerk in the media center. She has been with us since October 2007.  She is a mother of four children and she enjoys walking, reading, and spending time with her family.

Student Book Checkout Policies

We ask that all students return their Media materials every week. If students would like to renew the materials they have chosen they may do so by placing a yellow sticky note on the outside cover of the materials they would like to renew. Lost and/ or damaged Media materials must be paid for. We ask that monetary compensation be provided so that we can purchase materials that meet the specific needs of the Media Center (i.e. the books we purchase have a special library binding unlike the books that can be purchased in stores etc…)
