Gym Uniforms

In the interest of health, appearance and protection of the pupil's clothing, the use of a gym uniform is required.

Boxer shorts or spandex bike shorts are not acceptable as part of the uniform. Both girls and boys should have white socks and full back tennis shoes that are either laced or Velcro. Identification is required on all pieces of the student's uniform. Cold weather gear is recommended for cold weather. Absolutely no jewelry can be worn during Physical Education class.

 
Events

Fall Play Day
Each grade spends their day competing with the other homerooms in their grade. 6th Grade plays Kickball, 7th & 8th Grade plays Softball.


Mile Clubs
During the Mile Run (part of CCPS curriculum), students are timed and have the honor of being a member of the: Girls 6 Minute Mile Club, Girls 7 Minute Mile Club or Boys 6 Minute Mile Club.  Pictures are taken for the yearbook. Patches are given to those students making the 6/7 Minute Mile Club for the first time. Certificates are awarded for second and third time 6/7 Minute Mile Club Members.


Hoops for Charity
Students who participate in this basketball fun filled after-school activity, will select from three charities. The charity The charity with the greatest number of votes will receive a portion of the money collected from participation in this event.

The 2009 Hoops for Charity Event donated over $4,300 to local charities. The other portion was  used for patches, ribbons and certificates for the students.  Participants can either earn Service Learning Hours or receive a t-shirt for their participation. 

The event is held late Winter/early Spring for all grades. Permission slips are required.

 
Wrestling Championships
Held in February, the top two wrestlers of each weight class for 7th and 8th Grade boys, will wrestle in front of their peers.


Track & Field Unit
During this unit 7th and 8th Grade students will have an opportunity to qualify for the County Track & Field Team that will represent Sykesville Middle School at the County Playday held at East Middle School the middle of May.

The 6th Grade unit consists of learning the different Track & Field events in hopes of preparing for next year's playday.


Spring Play Day
Each grade spends their fun-filled day competing in a multitude of sports with the other homerooms in their grade. Remember to have your child apply sunscreen before arriving to school and bring in a water bottle!


Free after school clinics
These clinics are available in the Spring for Volleyball and Field Hockey. Students get a chance to work with Century High School coaches and players.
