We are very excited to announce that Shiloh Middle has become a Professional Development School associated with McDaniel College. What is a PDS? It is a school where future teachers, practicing teachers and the college faculty learn together along with the students. Future teachers participating in a PDS may be undergraduate or graduate students. They might take part in an internship in which they observe and assist the classroom teacher, possibly working with individuals or small groups of students under the teacher's supervision, or teaching short lessons. They might also be student teachers who gradually take over the instructional role under the classroom teacher's guidance and direction. How does becoming a PDS benefit the Shiloh community? Both teachers and college students are focused on teaching excellence. Also, Professional Development School have additional resources in terms of materials and the number of adults working with children. Future teachers participate in extended in ternships that enable them to truly experience all aspects of teaching; thus, they graduate better prepared to instruct our children. In addition, there are continuing professional development opportunities available to our faculty throught the Professional Development School program. To learn more about our PDS status, look for the bulletin board in the main hallway after the beginning of the school year, and follow the link to McDaniel College.
