Overdue Notices

Students are expected to return media center resources by the due date stamped on that resource. If you need the resource for a longer period of time, you may easily renew the item.

Overdue notices are sent to a student's homeroom after the first week the material is overdue. If a student's overdue book has not been returned or the fine has not been paid by the second notice, a pass is issued and attached to the 3rd notice to meet with the media clerk during homeroom to discuss the problem. If the problem of paying the fine and/or returning the overdue resource is still unresolved, the student's parent is called.

Computer Use

To use a computer in the media center, students must enter their user name and password into the login box. Students may use the media center's computers for class research and study or for personal growth purposes only. Games, Instant Messenger and personal e-mail are not allowed. Students are expected to follow the telecommunications policy for Carroll County Public Schools at all times.

Printer Use

Students should always read the selection that they wish to print from the computer very carefully. Before printing anything, preview the text to see how it will look and how long it will be when it is printed out. To save paper, it is sometimes best to highlight, copy and paste selected text from the Internet into a word processing program instead of printing out several pages of text.

Photocopy Access

Students may use the photocopier for class assignments only. The photocopier can enlarge or reduce and print on both sides. Please request assistance the first time you use the media center's photocopier so that you can be trained on its use. Cost of each photocopy is 10 cents.

Passes

During regular school hours, including lunch mods, students not accompanied by a teacher must have a pass to enter the Media Center. Students having passes are expected to sign in and out at the front desk and show their pass to a Media Center staff member. Students coming from lunch must remain in the media center during the entire period.

Conduct

Students are expected to work quietly and stay on task at all times. Students not accompanied by a teacher may be asked to return to class for inappropriate behavior. Students are to remain in their seats until the bell rings.
