Calendar Departments Health Suite
South Carroll's Health Suite is located in the southeast corner of Section A. This facility is provided for those students who become ill or injured while at school. Teachers will usually recognize those students who are not well enough to remain in school or those who may benefit from the services that can be administered in the Health Suite. A nurse is on duty in the Health Suite throughout the entire day. In the event the Health suite is not open, the student should report either back to class or to the office to inquire when the Health Suite will reopen. Students will not leave school to go home without proper authorization or such student will be considered truant.

If a student needs to have medication during the school year, a parent will need to complete a School Medication Form (printable PDF). The form should be filled out and submitted along with the medication. Forms are available from this web page, the Health Suite or the Main Office. Please remember that orders for medications do not carry over from year to year and a parent will need to pick up medications by the last day of school or they will be thrown away.
As a reminder, parents may bring in Tylenol (Acetaminophen) or Advil (Ibuprofen or Motrin) to leave in the health room for use during the school year. We highly recommend this, as it will enable your child to get relief from headaches or minor pains and will help them to remain in school. All other medications must have a doctor's order.
It is a violation of the county drug policy for students to carry medications to school. All medications MUST be brought in and signed for by a parent or legal guardian.
Emergency Procedure Cards
It is essential that your child returns a completed emergency card. We need this information to properly care for your child. We must be made aware of all medical concerns for your child. Please remember to fill out the bottom portion with any medical concerns.
ONLY A CUSTODIAL PARENT CAN SIGN THE EMERGENCY CARD
It is very helpful to include someone other than the parents who can pick your child up from school in the event of illness or injury. We need to be able to contact someone that is accessible and able to pick the child up if necessary.
Health Room Visits
We would like to remind parents that students should be encouraged to remain in school if they are able to. If they are not in school, they cannot develop their full educational potential. If a student asks to call the parent, we will.
But remember, you have the final say on whether or not the student remains in school, unless CCPS policy dictates that we must exclude them from school.

Health Suite Guidelines & Procedures
When a student is excused from class or the cafeteria for health reasons the following procedures should be followed:
- The student is given a pass initiated by the teacher.
- The student is signed in on the daily Health Suite log, indicating the arrival and departure time.
- The nurse will assess the student's health complaints and initiate an intervention and a treatment will follow. The health report will be completed and the student will receive a copy.
- If the student is too ill to remain in school, a call will be made to a parent to determine transportation arrangements. Students who drive must have a parental permission to leave school. Students may not take other students home.
- In cases of emergency, students requiring medical assistance beyond the capabilities of the Health Suite will be transported to a family physician or to Carroll County General Hospital.
- If a student sustains an injury during school hours and is not ambulatory or the injury is too severe to risk moving the student, a call should be made to the Health Suite. The nurse will come to the assistance of the student to triage and determine how best to handle the situation.
- Students should be discouraged from coming to school when they are truly ill. This only endangers their own health and the health of their classmates.
- If a student frequently comes to the Health Suite on a chronic basis, the nurse will refer this student to the appropriate school personnel.
- Health and safety education is a general responsibility of all faculty. In the event of an emergency, a teacher must use their discretion and best judgement to handle the situation safely.
- All students must have an updated emergency procedure card on file in the Health Suite no later than September 15th of each year. County policy requires that all information on both sides of the card be completed. Cards should always be checked for completion.
- No medications (either prescription or over the counter) will be administered without a medical consent form completed by a physician.
