Project Linus is a club and service organization that makes blankets for kids with cancer. Children can be anywhere from birth to 18 years of age. We also provide blankets for children who have a need for comfort and it might be for military families especially if someone was killed in the war. The students can choose the kind of blanket that they want to make. Some are hand-tied, fleece and simple to make. Some students sew blankets and if they don’t know how to sew or use a sewing machine, we will teach them how to do so. Students cut their squares and piece them back together - adding batting inside as they work on their blanket. We also teach students how to crochet so that students can make crocheted blankets as well. We average anywhere from 30 to 40 blankets a year that we send out to hospitals in the area. We often get back notes of gratitude from the hospitals, parents, and sometimes even the children themselves. Club members earn service hours for making these blankets.
