Student Clubs

Northwest Middle School offers a wide variety of clubs and activities for students to participate in. Below is a description of each, along with a short write-up and link to each club's teacher advisor.

Pub Club

This club produces a school yearbook, newspaper, magazine, and year-end slide show. Due to changes in the publishing process, no magazine or newspaper will run this school year. Student applications for the yearbook staff will be accepted at the end of October and the club is open to students in grades 6, 7 and 8. Anyone with creative experience and free time afterschool will find this club very rewarding. See Ms. Pearce for info!
TV News
Join the Channel 4 TV News Crew. This club is open to 8th grade students ONLY. Try your hand at anchor person or maybe you want a behind the scenes role like producer, technician or camera person. We meet once a month to evaluate our performance. See Ms. Wisner in the Media Center for details.

Cultural Connections Club
Do you like learning about other people, places, languages, and customs?  Then the Cultural Connections Club may be the club for you.  Our goals are to: Open students' minds to accepting other people, introduce and educate students to the world's diversity, and help students gain appreciation for their own link to the world. This club meets monthly and is open to all students.  Please see Mrs. Sturdivant for more information.
Ski & Snowboard Club
Do you like to ski and snowboard? If so, the Ski & Snowboard Club is the place to be. The club gets season passes that allow you to ski 4-10PM Monday through Saturday and 3-10PM on Sundays. All students may join and have fun with their friends and family.
Courtyard Club
If you enjoy gardening, animals and nature you will enjoy being a part of Northwest's Courtyard Club. This group meets in the fall and spring of each school year to provide maintanance and plantings for the school's courtyards and butterfly gardens. This club is open to all students. See Mr. Sawyers on Team 4 to join!
Kids Helping Kids
Do you enjoy helping others? If so, the Kids Helping Kids club may be the place for you. Students meet several times each month to plan activities that will help students in other schools (and STATES!) that are less fortunate than we are. Ask Ms. Bowers in L.F.I. for more information.
Student Leadership
Students in this club are selected after being nominated by a teacher. They participate in activities that help develop them as student leaders in our school. They meet afterschool to work on activities and events that help them accomplish this goal. See Mr. Smolko for information on joining this club.
MathCounts
This club meets for half the school year and is open to all students. Mathletes have fun sharpening their math skills by playing math games and working on computer challenges. A regional competition ends the season and each year Northwest has a chance to qualify for the National Competition. See Mr. Miller on Team 1 to join today!
S.H.O.U.T.
Students Helping Others in Understanding Themselves (SHOUT) is a club sponsored by Drug Free Schools. Students meet to promote and support drug free behaviors. Various activities are organized throughout the year by this club.
Media Aides
Are you interested in earning service learning hours? Are you dependable and self-motivated? If so, the Media Center can use your help. Your job will be to come into the Media Center to help keep everything neat and organized at least 3 times per week. You may also help with activities like creating displays and shelving books. See Ms. Wisner in the Media Center to apply.
