Team Building                               Self-Awareness
Academic Interventions
Counselors provide many academic interventions such as helping students with time management, assign students to high school mentors, and provide supplementary interventions unique to each student’s specific needs to ensure that every student will excel to their highest academic potential.
Behavioral Interventions
Counselors collaborate with administration and faculty to facilitate behavioral interventions for students in need of support in the areas of safety, respect, and responsibility.

Career Development- CHOICES

The School counseling department received a grant through the Carroll County Public School Education Foundation called CHOICES. This is a program that enables NCM to take 7th and 8th grade students on college and career oriented visitations.   CHOICES stands for creating hope, opportunity, inspiration, and caring while educating students. The goal is to give NCM students the vision and inspiration to strive for future goals related to career and post secondary interests. Last year 35 students attended a full day visitation to Stevenson University on February 23rd. Our second trip was to Towson University on April 8th. Our final trip was in the spring to tour the facility of Northrop Grumman, a leading corporation nationally and globally in the engineering field.
In order for students to attend they were required to fill out an application which entails an essay as well as teacher/adult recommendations.
8th grade students will attend the Carroll County Career and Tech Center on November 10, 2010 from 9-12 a.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to begin planning for high school course of studies and begin matching skills, interests, and abilities to appropriate career paths.

Collaboration
Counselors work closely with staff, administration and parents to monitor the progress of students and to ensure that effective interventions are provided. Counselors attend weekly team meetings discussing student concerns related to academics, social/emotional, and school behaviors. Counselors are involved in the transition process with elementary feeder schools. We travel to the elementary schools and meet with the students as well as meet with the elementary counselors to place students appropriately for the 6th grade. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Winsker or Mrs. Oxen via phone or email, at any time, in order to schedule a conference.

New student enrollments are held in June and July. Please call 410-751-3440 to schedule an appointment.
New Student Orientation will be held on August 26th 2010 at 7:00p.m. in the Glendaniel Gymnasium.

Transfer Students
Counselors will also help transition transfer students into the school by providing them with a Panther Pal who will take an active role in easing the student into the new school environment. The Panther Pal will be on the student’s team, will provide a tour of the school, will escort the student to each of their classes and will ensure that the student feels properly welcomed to North Carroll Middle.
Scheduling
Counselors work closely with students to create class schedules that best match students’ academic abilities and interests. North Carroll Middle creates schedules that accommodates student’s strengths as well as allows them to improve in area that may be a struggle.
