Grade Level Program Specifics
Kindergarten
Kindergarten will use the Response Journals with this list of Journaling Ideas.
For Quarter 1, students will get credit for any minutes read and at least four journal entries.
First Grade
First Grade will be using Response Journals. Click here for the Response Journaling Ideas for Primary Grades. The 1st Grade Parent letter has more details on the program.
uarter 1, the reading and writing that students have done in class will count for them. For the rest of the year, students will have to fill out the chart that they glued in their journal and do the 16 responses and send the journal back to school.
Second Grade
Second Grade will begin by recording Reading minutes, and later will use response journals using these suggested topics. The Parent Letter contains the details.
Third Grade
Third grade will track reading minutes and write twice weekly responses, according
to this Parent Information letter, and this Chart of response choices.
Fourth Grade
Fourth grade will record reading time and responses in their journals. Book Bingo reading
time will count for H.I.K.E. also. Be sure to record book name, time read, and question number

Fifth Grade
Fifth Graders will follow these Guidelines and use the ideas in
Rockin 'Reading Jeopardy.
