Our media program focuses on providing
library media instruction integrated with classroom learning.
Instruction is designed to teach media appreciation and
information skills that meet the learner outcomes across
all instructional areas. In addition, our media staff is
responsible for helping integrate technology and research
skills into the curriculum in our building.
We service over 700 patrons through regularly
scheduled media classes, informal research groups, inservices
to staff members and parents, as well as one on one instruction.
Currently we are teaching 37classes of students in grades
K-5 each week and have a weekly circulation of over 1200
books.
The media center is open each morning between
the hours of 7:30 - 7:55 for independent check-out and students
are invited to visit after unpacking in their classroom.
Our collection is chosen with care to reflect the needs
of all students and staff at Linton Springs. The media center
currently contains 12,953 titles.
We have 15 search stations for card catalog
access, Internet access, and CD-ROM research. A scanner
and a digital camera are also available for teacher directed
student use. In addition, our card catalog is available
on over 100 computers throughout the building. Our collection
provides an abundance of quality resources in all formats
to meet a wide range of learner abilities, developmental
levels, and modalities.
One way of disseminating information to
the school community is through our weekly media sponsored
TV show that is run entirely by the fifth grade and is viewed
by the entire school. Parent involvement is highly encouraged
and helpers are always welcome.
