Artist In Residency Program 2007

"Our Neighborhood" Mural Artist in Resident, Sylvia Benitez, spent 2 weeks this year at Linton Springs, working with students in grade 1 through 5, creating a mural in the style of pointillism. The mural consists of 9 panels with a total length of 35 feet. Invented by artist George Seurat in the 1800's, pointillism is a style of painting using dots of color applied very close together. The murals were also influenced by the landscape art of Grandma Moses. Students, parents, and staff participated in creating the panels which are permanently displayed in the lobby area near the gym and cafeteria. The residency, sponsored by the Maryland State Arts Council Artist in Education Program, was made possible by funding from a Maryland State Arts Council grant and the Linton Springs PTA.
