Artists of the Week Featured on Weekly LSE Television Program
Featured every Friday morning on the LSE television program at 8:00 AM is the Artist of the Week. Students are interviewed and have the opportunity to discuss their artwork, share their thoughts on what they learned, how they created it, and what they liked best about doing the project. First and second graders are featured alternately every week with third, fourth, and fifth graders. The artwork is then displayed in the hallway for all to enjoy.
Notes from the art room:
Artist in Residence Project on display! The panel mural, "What We Learn in School" is finished and on display in Linton Springs front lobby. Artist in Residence Sylvia Benitez put the finishing touches on the painted panels before they were hung high in the front lobby. All those entering the school can look up and see the efforts of LSE students in art. Students, teachers, and staff all helped create the images on the panels. Images were drawn, traced and painted to create the colorful addition to the school. Twenty four remaining panels have been hung throughout the school to finish the project. The panels include images from science, social studies, art, music, ILA, physical education, health, character traits, sign language, and math. Mrs. Nordling would like to extend a special thanks to all those who helped make this project a great success including the Maryland State Arts Council and Linton Springs PTA.
Coming this Spring!!
Artist in Residence, Sylvia Benitez, will join us again for an Artist in Education program. She and students will be creating a mural to enhance our hallways. We are looking forward to having her visit again. Thanks to the Maryland State Artists in Residence Program Grant and the Linton Springs PTA for funding.
Art Smocks
Please remember to send in an art shirt for first through third graders. An old shirt will do - you need not buy anything new.
I'll leave you with a thought from artist Pablo Picasso- "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up."
