Character Education

Carroll County Board of Education approved a policy in 1997 which calls for the infusion of character education throughout the school environment and instructional program in all schools. While recognizing that parents are the primary educators of children, we strongly believe that the schools share a significant role in helping young people develop and reinforce those characteristics that support a democratic society.  CCPS has adopted character traits for each month that are printed in the CCPS calendar.

Carroll County Public Schools has been recognized by the Character Education Partnership (CEP) for the "Promising Practices" award in character education.

Carroll County Public Schools is recognized for the ongoing efforts of the Character Education/Discipline Committee.  This committee is comprised of a unique group of educators and administrators from elementary, middle and high schools around the county.  The committee comes together several times throughout the year to discuss data, share best practices and practice character education initiatives.  The vision of the committee is to promote the integration of character education and effective discipline practices into curriculum and instruction in order to have a positive impact on student achievement and promote positive citizenship.

This award was presented at the Annual National Forum on Character Education on October 19, 2008.
