Elementary Instructional Support Teams
What Is An Instructional Support (IS) Team?
An IS Team is a school-based collaborative problem solving team. The role of the IS Team is to support grade-level teams with collaborative problem solving, engage in case reviews of students who continue to struggle and provide ongoing professional development to staff in the various components of the collaborative problem solving process. In addition, IS Teams work with their School Improvement Team to analyze student data and coordinate the development of student interventions.
What Does an IS Team Look Like?
Membership on the IS Team includes representatives from each grade-level team, the reading specialist, the mathematics resource teacher, a special education teacher, the guidance counselor, a special area (i.e. art, music) teacher and at least one administrator. Team configuration varies from school to school, but the team represents diversity of school-based staff.
When Does the IS Team Meet?
Most elementary IS Teams in Carroll County Public Schools meet weekly for approximately 40 minutes. Depending on a particular school's schedule, the team meets before school or after school. Many school-based administrators provide some coverage for team members so that the entire meeting time is not outside of the contractual day.
