Health education in Carroll County Public Schools is taught in all grades,
kindergarten through grade 12. This curriculum provides the classroom teacher
and the certified health educator opportunities to address the state health
framework, county outcomes, and program objectives. Lesson plan outcomes tie
the curriculum together and provide the teacher with extensions, modifications,
and supplemental materials for use with students of all ability levels.
The curriculum is designed to provide students with introductory lessons,
continuations of lessons spanning several years, and review lessons with extensions
for elementary and secondary students.
In educating students about wellness, it is important to recognize all dimensions
of the individual (spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional and social).
Students should recognize that wellness is a lifelong pursuit. The curriculum
is designed to apply wellness concepts to various life stages. It is our goal
to motivate students to be more proactive at promoting their own well being
by preventing potential health problems and making educated, responsible decisions.
This curriculum has been written to address all essential outcomes approved
by the Carroll County Board of Education for Health 1, and in accordance with
its policy on abstinence based education. Abstinence from sexual involvement
should be stressed throughout this course as the safest, a most appropriate
choice for students.
