ESOL Program History and Demographics
The ESOL Program in Carroll County Public Schools has experienced dramatic growth over the past 5 years. Our student population has increased to approximately 200 English language learners (ELLs). Students are spread throughout the county at all grade levels. In order to meet the needs of our growing number of ELLs, our staff has continued to expand. The team currently includes 17 certified ESOL Resource Teachers and 4 ESOL Tutors.
Our ESOL population represents many different languages, cultures and countries.
- 30 languages and 30 countries are represented in our program
- Spanish, Vietnamese, and Mandarin are the most predominant languages spoken
Current Trends In CCPS
- 60% of our students are beginning level ELLs
- 70% are at the elementary level
- 15% are at the middle school level
- 15% are at the high school level
- Students spend an average of 3-4 years in the program
