Child Development Knowledge
Child development refers to how a child becomes able to do more complex things as they get older. Development is different from growth. Growth only refers to the child getting bigger in size.
PAT looks at four areas of development:
- Gross/fine motor: Gross motor involves the large muscles of the body and fine motor involves the muscles of the hand.
- Language:
- Expressive language - what a child says
- Receptive language - what child understands
- Intellectual: Thinking skills, including learning, understanding, problem solving, reasoning, and remembering.
- Social-emotional: Interacting with others, having relationships, cooperating, and responding to the feelings of others.
The PAT Born to Learn Curriculum provides parents with information about how their child is developing during each month from birth to three years of age.
The PAT 3-K Curriclum offers parents information and activities to support them in getting their children ready to learn and for a successful start in school.
