Early Childhood News & Updates Effective January 24, 2011 there are changes to the weather related procedures for PreKindergarten: Prekindergarten and Kindergarten report cards will be sent home at the end of January. If you have questions concerning these, please contact your child’s teacher, who will be happy to discuss it with you. Carroll County Public Schools will be having registration for Kindergarten from March 21 – March 25, 2011. All children who turn 5 years old on or before September 1 must enroll in Kindergarten. If you believe your child is not ready for kindergarten you may request a waiver. This waiver is available from the school’s office where your child is to attend. If parents would like to request a waiver for early entrance to kindergarten, the child must be 5 years old by October 1, 2011. Applications for Early Entrance to Kindergarten will also be available at the schools during kindergarten registration week and must be completed and submitted/postmarked no later than May 1, 2011.

Early Childhood Education Programs: The Carroll County Public Schools’ Early Childhood Programs include Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, and Judy Center which includes Parents As Teachers (PAT). All Early Childhood Programs follow curriculums that are aligned with the Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR). Judy Center Partnership of Carroll County is a state funded initiative to promote school readiness for children birth through five years of age and their family. Kindergarten is a full day program provided for students who live in Carroll County and reach the age of 5 on or before September 1. PreKindergarten provides direct instruction for students who are income-eligible and four years old. PAT (Parents As Teachers) is a program for parents and children, ages birth through 5 where they participate in learning how to help their children develop school readiness skills. MMSR (Maryland Model for School Readiness) is an assessment and instructional system designed to provide parents, teachers, and early childhood providers with a common understanding of what children know and are able to do upon entering school. |
