Secondary Mathematics

The Carroll County Secondary Mathematics program is designed to prepare all students to be successful participants in a global community. Graduates of Carroll County Public Schools will know and be able to use mathematics in their chosen career path whether that be to directly enter the world of work, to continue their formal education, or both.

The middle and high school mathematics curricula are aligned to the Maryland Voluntary State Curricula, the Maryland University System requirements in mathematics, and to national mathematics standards so that students are prepared for Maryland State Assessments (MSA's) in grades 6-8 and the High School Assessment in Algebra / Data Analysis.

The middle school program takes all students from their level of mathematical understanding upon entering sixth grade to an understanding of the foundational elements of algebra, patterns, and functions; geometry; measurement; statistics; probability; number relationships and computation; and processes of mathematics (problem solving strategies). Accelerated students also may complete high school courses in Algebra I / Data Analysis and Geometry for high school credit.

The high school program includes course sequences for students who wish to directly enter the world of work without further formal education as well as for students who wish to continue their formal mathematics education. Three college-level Advanced Placement courses are available for students who seek that challenge during their high school career.
