STAFF AND PROCEDURES

The Hampstead Elementary Media Center is staffed by a full-time Media Specialist, Ms. Betsy Morton, and a part-time Media clerk, Mrs. Regina Mullinix.  Students in Grades 1-5 have Media class once a week for 30 minutes.  Kindergarten students have two 30 minute Media classes each week.  The Media Center is also open for students from 8:20 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. The collection is comprised of 11,000 books, 30 magazines, 700 videos, professional materials, and many reference sources. Students in Kindergarten, First, and Second grades borrow one book every week while students in Third, Fourth, and Fifth grades borrow two books every other week during Media time. Students are encouraged to use the Media Center throughout the day.

MISSION STATEMENT

It is the mission of the Hampstead Media Center to provide support to the school community with quality instruction and resources that promote the love of reading, help students become better readers and assist in the quest for ideas and information.

SPECIAL EVENTS

All Hampstead Elementary students may participate in the County Media Festival. Many students enter the Photography portion of that festival. Look for details in the January school newsletter.

Media students judge picture books and chapter books in the Black-Eyed Susan Book Contest.

Special literature activities take place during National Children's Book Week in November and School Library Media Month in April.
