Catch the Waves

This year our staff has modeled our school-wide expectations plan around a program known as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS is a proactive systems approach for creating and maintaining safe and effective learning environments in schools. PBISMaryland focuses on data-based decision-making around discipline and academics. The goals of PBIS are:

  • Increase consistent use of positive teaching and reinforcement strategies among all school staff at school-wide, classroom and individual student levels.
  • Reduce the use of reactive discipline measures in schools (i.e. office referrals and detentions) for all students.
  • Increase data-based decision-making about behavior and academic instruction and reinforcement across all school settings.
  • Implement effective comprehensive supports, services, and interventions for students with the most intensive behavioral needs.

Our school-wide expectations program is known as ‘Catch the Waves’.
We want our Dynamic Dolphins to catch the waves of being Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn.
