Students
are encouraged to read literature from a variety of genre
in the media center. The media center is organized into
a series of "neighborhoods" to facilitate easy
of locating materials. Beginning in Second Grade, students
learn the various sections of the media center, how to access
materials using OPAC, and how to use spine label stickers
effectively. Books that belong to a specific genre (historical
fiction, realistic fiction, fantasy, science fiction, animal
fiction, etc.) are labeled as such on their spine labels
within the media collection of Friendship Valley's media
collection. Students are encouraged to browse the shelves
to locate literature from a variety of genre. In addition
to reading from a variety of genre, students are encouraged
to read award winning literature. Throughout their media
instruction, students are introduced and exposed to various
literature awards. The following website links explain each
of the literature awards and contain lists of books that
have received the designated award.
