Online Databases

The following online subscriptions provide students with access to online databases, encyclopedia articles, and other educational materials. FVE students and their families may access these websites at school as well as from home. Please refer to your "at home" usernames and passwords for using the following sites at home.

This award-winning database includes articles and graphics from over 1,400 magazines, newspapers and
U.S. government documents.  Items are selected for their educational content and interest, and are sorted by reading level.  Find information on famous people, different countries, animals, sports, history and much more!

Now you can have your own encyclopedia at home! Check out Britannica's online reference center for a variety of reference tools, including a dictionary, thesaurus, atlas, and encyclopedia.  Explore the "Britannica Learning Zone", a learning center designed for students in PreK - 2nd grade.  Fun and educational information, including great videos and games, can be found on a wide variety of interesting topics.  Explore topics like Geography, Language Arts, Science, Math, Social Studies, and Sports.  And be sure to check out the special animal and activity of the day!

CultureGrams is a wonderful resource that is divided into four main sections: World Edition, Kids Edition, States Edition, and Provinces Edition.  World Edition provides information on over 200 countries and includes maps, photos, statistics, and a glossary.  The Kids Edition provides a “kid’s-eye-view” of over 90 countries, those that are the most common and popular in children’s reports.  The States Edition is a fantastic resource and particularly useful for third grade students during their social studies state unit.  Visit the Provinces Edition and explore the 13 provinces and territories of Canada!  CultureGrams provides fun reports with facts, state symbols, flags, time lines, images, videos, and so much more!

The TumbleBook Library is a collection of animated, talking picture books, puzzles, games, and quizzes.  TumbleBooks are created from existing picture books that have been licensed from children’s book publishers.  Featured characters and stories include Biscuit the dog and Melanie Watt's Scaredy Squirrel books.  Stories can be read at your own pace.  Older students will also enjoy exploring the books in the TumbleReadables  section!
