Francis Scott Key Media Center is dedicated to serving the information needs of the entire school community. We provide an information literacy program in collaboration with the teachers to help our students develop skills to access, evaluate and use information. Students must be able to achieve learning outcomes that will provide them with the skills to become information literate, independent learners, and socially responsible.
The student who is information literate:
- accesses information efficiently and effectively;
- evaluates information critically and competently; and
- uses information effectively and creatively
The student who is an independent learner is information literate and
- pursues information related to personal interests
- appreciates and enjoys literature and other creative expressions of information; and
- strives for excellence in information seeking and knowledge generation
The student who is socially responsibile contributes positively to the learning community and to society, is information literate, and:
- recognizes the importance of information to a democratic society
- practices ethical behavior in regard to information and information technology; and
- participate effectively in groups to pursue and generate information
