Unlocking the Future
The mission of Francis Scott Key High School is to help all students grow intellectually, personally, and socially while inspiring them to reach academic excellence. Francis Scott Key High School is committed to providing a diverse program of study that emphasizes the dignity and value of each student while giving the student the confidence to accept the challenges of life.

Philosophy
We accept our mission. It is imperative that we provide instructional experiences that will inform and enlighten our students about democracy and their democratic heritage. A student well prepared for life in our society and the global community should possess a broad and balanced understanding of our world, skills for working and living in that world, skills for critical thinking and problem-solving, and values which will steer his/her decisions and actions for the benefit of self and the society at large.

We believe our staff develops productive thinking, writing, math, and social skills within our student populations. We use homogeneous and heterogeneous groupings, varied teaching techniques and methods, and positive classroom atmosphere to develop these skills and build self-esteem. Although memorization and rote learning take place, higher critical thinking skills are emphasized.

We recognize that the diversity of abilities and aspirations among our students mandates a flexible, evolving, varied school porgram in order for each student to achieve his or her full potential. Similarly, it is essential that various co- and extra-curricular programs be presented and utilized.

We contend that our students' education is a shared project between school and community and that effective communication between both parties is necessary.
