Virginia Hamilton

Virginia Hamilton grew up on a farm in Ohio but was named for her grandfather's home state. This same grandfather had escaped as a child from slavery. Virginia's parents were wonderful storytellers. Growing up listening to their stories helped her to develop a strong sense of her heritage and a pride in her cultural history. This, then provided the ground work for the more than 30 books she has authored. Ms. Hamilton is married and has two grown children. Her husband, Arnold Adoff, is also a writer and poet. Several of Mr. Adoff's books can be found in our media center. The East Middle School library contains biographies, fiction and nonfiction books written by Virginia Hamilton. You can find out more about our author of the month by visiting her website.

A MESSAGE FROM Virginia Hamilton

Hello to everyone!
Your Media Specialist, Mrs. Walters, wrote me telling me about your website and your focus on authors. Well, I'm Virginia Hamilton and I hope some of you are reading some of my books. I thought I had already answered the email some time ago but I get so many emails, I might have lost track. Anyway, I hope you all have a good month of February. If it's too late to post my letter, you can post it in March, which is National Women's month. I'm a woman, too!
Sincerely, your friend,
Virginia Hamilton
