Caroline B. Cooney

Caroline
B. Cooney is an author and musician. Mrs Cooney has always loved books and music.
As a child she spent many hours reading and playing the piano or organ. One of
her favorite authors at that time was Edward Eager. Three of his books are in
the EMS media center and may be the titles she read and enjoyed as a child (Magic
or Not, Seven-day Magic, The Well Wisher)
It seems a natural transition that Mrs. Cooney
would move from reading to writing books for young people. Her first attempts
at writing, however, were historical fiction novels for adults. These early efforts
remain unpublished. Mrs. Cooney's perseverance paid off when her book, Safe
as the Grave, written for young adults was published. This start, then, was
followed by many popular books for young people.
Some of Mrs. Cooney's most popular titles have
been; The Face on the Milk Carton, Driver's Ed, Whatever Happened to Janie,
and Flight 116 is Down. Her 1997 book, The Terrorist, is a nominee
for this year's Black-Eyed Susan award. Another favorite in our school is What
Child is This?: A Christmas Story.
